Course Description

Old School Chinatown Jeet Kune Do requires you to master specific skill sets and the Level 1 curriculum will give you all of the tools required to give you the proper foundation of Bruce Lee's Chinatown JKD.

Learn all of the Level 1 requirements required in Chinatown JKD (with this knowledge you will be ready to test for your 1st Rank certificate). There are 25 individual lessons with each lesson containing multiple video modules totaling over 15 hours of video in Level 1 alone!

In these lessons you will learn proper structure and techniques, but more importantly the foundation to properly intercept an attack, strike harder and faster than you ever imagined!

The Level 1 phase of Chinatown JKD relates to the first of Bruce Lee’s three stages in the cultivation of Jeet Kune Do, “sticking to the nucleus”. As we begin to introduce the foundation of the Jeet Kune Do structure, or as Sijo Lee put it, the “nucleus”, it is crucial to stick to this structure.

You'll learn:

  • All The Foundational Techniques - Learn all of the foundational techniques required for Level 1 ranking in Chinatown JKD, including: footwork, striking, kicking, interception, trapping and more!
  • How To Strike Hard & Fast - Learn to harness your natural abilities to strike with maximum impact.
  • How To Get Functional! Access dozens of exercises and drills to develop your JKD stand-up game instantly
  • How To Control Distance! - Learn simple and efficient maneuvers you can use to always maintain your range and keep weapons "on target".
  • How To Intercept - This is the CORE of Chinatown JKD. Learn how to intercept EVERY TIME your opponent moves. You'll also learn one of our "bread and butter" techniques for intercepting as taught to us by Sifu Bob Bremer (this is a "lost" technique that is rarely, if ever, taught by other JKD groups)
  • Unique Drills & Techniques - Learn the drills and techniques taught by Sijo Bruce and refined over the last 40 years by Sifu Bremer, Tacket and Sewell.
  • How to Properly Bridge the Gap - While JKD is an intercepting art, you don't always want to wait for the fight to come to you! Learn to take the initiative and attack first by “taking care of” the various lines of attack.
  • Unique Drills & Techniques - Learn the drills and techniques taught by Sijo Bruce and refined over the last 40 years by Sifu Bremer, Tacket and Sewell.
  • Trapping... The Chinatown JKD Way - We do not do "trapping for trapping's sake". Learn how you can start using your trapping in a functional environment. Learn to trap and throw; trap & takedown; trap and trip and how to trap & choke and more!
  • Grappling Counters & Drills - Learn simple yet effective counters for the most common grappling engagements. Footwork counters, level changes, clinch work and more!
  • the Chinatown JKD ABC & Trapping series - As part of the requirements for rank in Chinatown JKD, you are required to perform the ABC (Attack by Combination) and Trapping series. You will learn each of our series (over multiple modules) to get you ready for advancement.
  • Boxing Drills and Defensive Maneuvers - Learn the required boxing drills and techniques taught by Sijo Bruce. You will also learn basic boxing defensive strategies, glove / chain drills.
  • Isolation Sparring - great drills for anyone who's new to the JKD and contact sparring game. Learn simple drills and "games" to prepare you for sparring in Level 2.
  • And A Lot More! - There's just too many things to list...

Great information. Even though I am familiar with the JKD basics, this video taught me new methods of defense in a tight situation.

This course is presented with both structural elements, flow, awesome demonstrations down slowly, great content, and provides a platform for future development in the art of JKD. I would highly recommend this course to anyone seeking the true structural foundations of the original Chinatown JKD. I am a 75 year-old part-time certified Tai Chi/Qi Gong instructor and psychology prof full time. I am enjoying the format of the course and look forward, as time permits, to progressing through the various levels. Karl-Erik Andreasson, Ph.D

Put together by members of well known Jeet Kune Do Wednesday night group. The level 1 focus is for you to learn Jeet Kune Do techniques and tactics in a step by step format of the time period where Bruce Lee was offering classes in L.A Chinatown. They put a lot of attention to the basics for you to learn them in details and then build up from that.
